Biofilters installed in Robin Creek in Davenport

Partners of Scott County Watersheds received a grant from Iowa American Water’s Environmental Grant Program to install three biofilters along Robin Creek in Davenport.  On Monday, in partnership with the City of Davenport, they were put into place!  The biofilters were constructed from a dense matrix of special materials that allow formation of biofilms (layers of naturally occurring microorganisms).  As water flows through, these microorganisms digest or react with nutrients and bacteria in the creek, ultimately reducing the levels of these nutrients and bacteria downstream.   Thank you to the Franklin, Ohio Soil and Water Conservation District for providing the design plans and for additional support!
